St Clement's, Sandwich: Ian Tracey organ recital, 11 May 2024

Julian Sampson, organist of St Clement's Sandwich, writes:

Dear all

I wanted to let you know that we finished the organ refurbishment works at St Clement’s last October, very much on time and on budget. I must say that Anthony Hall of Clevedon Organs has been brilliant, and we are very pleased with outcome both tonally and also with the changes that have been made. His craftsmanship and attention to detail has been second to none and he continues to take great personal pride in the instrument that he helped fashion back in 1995 when he was with Nicholsons and more latterly, on his own.

We have carried out the following works

  1. Cleaning.
  2. Replacement of rusting axles in the action.
  3. Tonal finishing (to complete the work not “finished” by Nicholsons when they built the instrument).
  4. Provision of a swell octave coupler because that department does not have a 2’ stop.
  5. Replacement of the pistons and setter systems so we now have 6 pistons per department and generals within a 256 level system.
  6. Provision of a Zimbelstern.
  7. A new CCTV system with inbuilt concealed CCTV screen.

Whilst the organ has been back in use since October, we have been very much looking forward to our official “Re-Opening Recital” given as part of a series of organ concerts this year. We are extremely fortunate to have Ian Tracey, Organist of Liverpool Cathedral to give the opening concert on Saturday 11th May 2024 and I hope that you will be able to do that . The concert begins at 7.30pm and will include refreshments.

We have further event on in summer as per attached posters including a Deal Festival concert by Paul Stubbings on the 13th July.

It would be great to have your support for the Ian Tracey concert – will be a very grand affair!

Julian
