Two new honorands

Two very long-serving officers of the KCOA have recently become our honorands.

Colin Jilks, who has edited our excellent and (we think) flagship Journal for 28 years, was made President Emeritus at the AGM in Wye on 29 July. Colin, who now lives in Sussex but still attends many of the meetings, is an organ builder by profession. After an apprenticeship with Henry Willis III he worked for Rushworth & Dreaper in and around London and then as Hill, Norman and Beard's Kent representative until the firm closed, after which he set up as Colin K Jilks & Associates Ltd. He plays the violin as well as the organ, is active in the Steyning Jazz Club, and officiates regularly at two country churches. He joined the KCOA in 1981 and was its President in 1999-2001, also serving for a long time as Deputy President.

David Brock, now an Honorary Member, has been a member of the KCOA for even longer, since 1965. He served several terms on the committee and was Treasurer immediately prior to our present one, Kevin Grafton. David remained an active participant in KCOA visits until very recently--he came to our Kensington trip last April--but is planning with his wife Sue to move away from Kent to be nearer the family, who are in the Nuneaton area. He began playing the organ as a teenager in Reading, but for many years his base was Gillingham, Kent, working for the Borough, with organ posts in two Methodist churches and an occasional one at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Maidstone. He is still playing at least once a month at two of these churches.

More extensive profiles of Colin and David will appear in the next KCOA Journal, sent to all members.
